We will begin our tour in the morning and we will leave from Cusco early, traveling through high Andean landscapes with impressive views that will accompany our tour until we arrive at the archaeological site of Ninamarca, it is a pre-Inca cemetery where we will have a brief explanation about this culture called Lupaca and its territorial expansion; After this we will continue our trip to the picturesque town of Paucartambo where we will also have a stop to enjoy our breakfast on our Q'inty Nature Restaurant and also a short walking-tour of the town and then continue towards the entrance of the Manu National Park in a place called Acjanco where we will have an explanation of the place that we visited and thus be able to begin to descend to the Cloud Forest, where we can have impressive views of the high-Amazonian landscape, waterfalls and enjoying the trip and be able to see birds of beautiful colors such as: Quetzales, Trogons, Tanagers, and with great possibilities of seeing the Tschudi's Woolly Monkey and the Large-headed Capuchin Monkey.
On this tour through the Cloud Forest, we can take our first walk to relax and have our first contact with nature, because the Cloud Forest is home to many species of orchids that bloom seasonally, and thus enjoy a pristine landscape and at sunset we arrive at our lodge where we will spend the night.
Today in the morning after breakfast we will continue our trip still by road to our next lodge, we will pass through two small towns Patria and Pillcopata before arriving at the port of Atalaya. Along the route we will be able to feel the change of climate in this final stretch. the transition zone between Cloud Forest and the Lowland, makes opportunities to see some animals such as: Red Howler Monkey, Toppin's Titi Monkey, Bolivian-Common Squirrel Monkey, some birds such as: South American Emerald toucanet, Roadsite Hawk, Rasset-backed Oropendola, Crested Oropendola, etc. We will also have the opportunity to observe the jungle from a viewpoint before arriving to Atalaya port.
In Atalaya we change our car for a motor boat and we will navigate downriver for approximately twenty-five minutes by the waters of the Madre de Dios River until reach our lodge where we are going to check in and then enjoy lunch, after this we head to the small lake called Machuwasi which is one hour approximate walk through secondary jungle where we can navigate on traditional rafts made from the balsa tree, there we will see to Hoatzin, bird related to the first pre-historic bird called Archeopteryx, this birds are restricted to the swamp habitats in the Amazon jungle .
The walk to that swamp is also an opportunity to observe other forest creatures such as small monkeys, birds, snakes, small alligators, etc.
We will be back at our lodge before dinner.
At dawn today we will get on at motorized boat and will travel for approximately ten minutes to reach the “collpa” (place where the Parrots gather to eat clay that, due to its high concentration of sodium, helps reduce the effects of the toxins contained in the seeds and the unripe fruits that they consume daily) where parrots such as: Blue-headed Parrot, Yellow-crowned Parrot, White-eyed Parakeet, Dusky-headed Parakeet, Chestnut-fronted Macaw, etc. They descend to lick the clay to stabilize their digestion and socialize; These birds are monogamous and during this clay lick activity they can get a partner to live forever together.
After will return to the lodge where we will enjoy our breakfast and after a short rest will begin our walk towards the jungle, entering through the primary forest this time and having the experience of being immersed in this wonderful ecosystem which is so important for the humanity and considered the lungs of the world.
After this activity we will return to our lodge to enjoy our lunch and after to have break will get a short trail where will continue our walks or choose to go relax and swim in the Madre de Dios, our schedule will be flexible.
Tonight, and after dinner we can make a night walk of approximately one hour (OPTIONAL), this walk will allow us to observe nocturnal wildlife and feel unexpected emotions in the jungle.
Today it's time to return to Cusco, after a breakfast we will embark and sail against the current of the river until reach the Atalaya port and from there will take our vehicle, being able to enjoy once again the charms of the cloud forest and arriving in Cusco at sunset.
